I have several 7960 phones that will sometimes not be able to bring up the Corporate Directory.
When you select the Corporate Directory, the phone attempts to load it and the message "Select a Directory" shows on the display. Unfortunately no directory ever shows. This happens on several phones that are at a remote office and go across the WAN to access the CM.
Any help would be appreciated.
Just guessing, not allot of info provided, but I would say you have a name resolution issue.
Does the directory URL have the IP address or the host name of the Publisher? Does the phone have a DNS server defined?
Thanks for the response.
The URL is defined by IP Address to the CM. The latency between the voice network the phones reside on and the CM is approx. 80ms.
Any other ideas/suggestions?
You might have a TFTP issue. TFTP caches xml files in memory at startup in order to save disk space. For some reason, sometimes the phones can't access those files. The way to check if this is the problem you are running into is to disable TFTP cache.
For that go to Services Parameters --> TFTP on the page click advanced and disable Enable Caching ... I believe you need to restart TFTP service after that.
It doesn't cause any harm to your system at least you have many phones.
Let me know if it helps.
Gave this a try. No luck. I do not believe this happens at any other remote site. Is there a timeout for the directory call-up? Could the latency (80ms) be too high and this timeout is exceeded?
Are the phones going through a proxy to access the Web Server connecting to the Directory? Also do you have any WAN policies that could be limiting HTTP? Assuming the web server is the IIS on the CCM, I would look at the web logs to see if I saw the phones IP accessing the web server when you get a failed access attempt.
Thanks for the thoughts. No web proxy, all traffic just routed through a Private Routed Network. Other than this small nuisance, there are no other issues. I'm kind of stumped at this point.
Any help would appreciated.
run ethereal on the pc behind that 7960 and capture what happens.
I have seen instances with PAB/PFD on a 7912 where packets came in out of order (i.e. 1,2,4,3,5)
and the phone could not handle it...(this was resolved though by new firmware)
What are you using to connect both ends? Are you using IPSec?
If so, you might want to check the nat transversal command on the Pix. I had a similar situation and it was related to that command. When entered on a Pix firewall it stop the directory from being display but I don't remember the exact message.
Let me know if it helps.
We also have this same problem with our WAN sites. We've tried newer firmware and the problem got worse. On newer firmware it causes the phone to reboot, or they have to try 6 or 7 times to get into corp directory.
Let me know if you found a solution to this. We have wan sites with latency as low as 20ms and still have the problem.
The most stable so far has been P00307020400 for 7940/60.
