Is there a cost to use the softphone. I was reading on Cisco's website there was a $105 cost per user. I downloaded the software, installed it, and it works for me fine. Is there something you have to install on Call Mgr?
The $150 cost is for the license to use SoftPhone as a station device on Cisco CallManager. The software itself is in effect, free. All CallManager phones, hard or soft, are sold with a right-to-use license. So, if you have 1,000 active 7960/40/20 IP phones of any kind on CCM, your license fees would be $150,000.00 list. If you had 10 spare phones, used only to replace previously deployed hard or soft phones, there would be no license fee required for those spare phones.
With CallManager 3.2 and above (as I recall), some of the user/phone license fee is built into the server/software price, which can be found in the Pricing Tool, similar to below.
SW-CCM-3.2-7845= CallManager 3.2 - MCS-7845H-2400 with 2500 Svr Usr Lic S USD 15,995.00
The above part numbers is an example of the CallManager software and up to 2,500 phone/user licenses for a single server of the HW model listed. The actual server HW would be a separate item. Any additional active phones used on that server, beyond the quantity listed in the SW package price would require a license such as:
SW-CCM-UL-7960 CallManager Unit license for single 7960 IP phone S USD 150.00
SW-CCM-UL-7940 CallManager Unit license for single 7940 IP phone S USD 150.00
SW-CCM-UL-7935 CallManager Unit license for single 7935 IP phone S USD 150.00
SW-CCM-UL-7920 CallManager Unit License for Single Wireless IP Phone 7920 S USD 150.00
SW-CCM-UL-7920= CallManager Unit License for Single Wireless IP Phone 7920 S USD 150.00
SW-CCM-UL-7912 CallManager Unit license for single 7912 IP phone S USD 80.00
SW-CCM-UL-7910+SW CallManager Unit license for single 7910+SW IP phone S USD 80.00
SW-CCM-UL-7910 CallManager Unit license for single 7910 IP phone S USD 80.00
The quantity of phones actively utilizing a specific CallManager server is a design issue, covered in detail in the CallManager design topics on CCO.
Thanks for the info!! We currently have Call Mgr 3.3 but started with CM 3.1. When we buy phones we always buy a license with each phone. So my question is if tomorrow I buy (1) 7940 phone with a license will this license be good for (1) softphone for the same phone/user? If just one user uses the 7940 phone and the soft phone (but not at the same time) will this require 2 separate licenses?
