I am not aware of any method to preview .aef apps without configuring and running them on a CRA/CRS server. Perhaps someone else knows of a way, but since the .aef is interpreted by the CRA/CRS software and handled by the engine, I'm not sure there is a way around it.
There are a number of threads on this forum regarding configuring an idle logo.. you might find them helpful. Also check this link from Cisco which shows how to configure the idle url setting in CallManager:
Once you've got the SDK, you can use the gif2cip.exe utility to convert your .gif format logo to an IP-Phone-compatible .cip format. Put the output of the gif2cip process in a web page (ie asp or jsp etc) and configure CallManager's idle url to point to that web page.
