de-jitter buffer in VIC cards

We have two 1750-4V routers with 4 E&M ports (two VIC) each to do LAN to LAN and VoIP between two PBX .

The routers are connected by a 128kbps leased line.

The routers are running IOS 12.0(5)XQ.

The VoIP quality was good for two years untill we had a VIC failure (the router does not still see it and bot leds stay on red lights)

We changed the VIC but the bad voice quality persists.

Sometimes the voice calls result with a lot of drops like if there are jitter problems.

We tried increasing the voip bandwidth an reducing the fragment delay but without results even without data pachets travelling on leased line.

Ios 12.0(5)XQ on 1750 does not have commands to control play-out delay jitter buffer.

After a lot of tests we changed the second VIC on the same router that had the firts failure and the problem disappear.

The router does not show "anything we know" about a failure.

Is there a way to have a log about a HW failure of that kind ?

De-jitter buffers are on board of VIC E&M cards ?

I'm fairly certain that the de-jitter buffers are in the memory of the IOS not the card itself. With that being said, couple of thoughts, 12.0.5 is a fairly old version of code from a voice standpoint. You could have gotten a VIC that has new firmware or perhaps a different component or two that could have given you the results. As far as troubleshooting a "show call active voice" when an active call was going on might have shown you something.

Hi Rick

I send two samples of "show call active voice" during two voip conversations, each sample for both sides of the conversation.

For both samples the routers configurations were always the same and there was no data traffic on the leased line, just voip.

The first is for the old E&M VIC and the voip quality was bad.

The second is for the new E&M VIC and the voip quality was good.

If you can see something wrong in that outputs or something that could show a failure, that could be helpfull, I will appreciate.

Thanks, best regards
