DHCP request IP phone in same VLAN.

We are designing/testing an IPT network with IP phones and computers in 1 VLAN.

Can someone explain how the DHCP server sees the difference between the IP phone request and PC request?

regards, Marty

No difference. Both devices will be considered from the same flat network and assigned ip addresses as the requests come in. Its recommend to keep them in two different vlans. Option 150 will have to configured for this pool. Phones will use the option 150, PCs will ignore that option.

Sankar,

is it possible to use the vendor id in the DHCP request to make a difference?

Or can this only be done by MAC addres of the IP phone?
