Is it possible to use a combination of Dialogic D/41D's and D/41E-PCI's together in the same system? I have a customer(running 2.4.6.102) with 2 D/41D's and they need to add more 8 ports; of course we have only PCI slots available...

Brad P. Short answer: Completely unsupported.

Long answer: There's a slew of technical issues that can prevent this exact mixture of boards from happening, including the following...

1. "E" type boards are of a board type that requires all boards in a system to be bus'd together. The "D" boards do not have this bus.

2. "E" boards use shared memory addressing and "D" boards use reserved memory addressing.

We have never tested a configuration that has a mixture of D/41D and D/41E boards (it makes no difference if the "E" board is PCI or ISA, we haven't done it).

That being said, is their a PCI version of the D/41D? Any idea what my options are here?

Dialogic has a slew of different types of boards and form factors. Here is what we will support with Unity 2.4.6 and Unity 3.0:

D/41E PCI
D/120JCT-LS

These boards, can be mixed together. Keep in mind, these are only approved for North America.

Just FYI, I was able to sucessfully get 2 D/41EPCI's and 2 D/41D's working in the same system, with Unity 2.4.6.102 recognizing all 16 ports. The key was, on the D/41EPCI, setting the "BusType" to "none". Are there any issues with not cabling the boards together, or setting the "BusType" parameter to none? Everything is working fine at this point, I just want to know what to look out for...

Thanks,

Your right, you can get them to work together. The only problem that I see, is that this is a completely unsupported TAC configuration.
