DID Routing to FAX Server through PRI

I have a 2851 CCME Router with a PRI phone system connected to all Cisco Phones for voice. I also have a DID block of 5500-5699 coming in through the PRI delivering all 10 digits. Each employees extension is an even number and their dedicated FAX is the next sequential number; an odd number. Their dn’s are all dual with 5xxx as primary and 5555555xxx as secondary. I would like to create a dial-plan to accommodate all FAX lines to go to a group of FXS ports to support my FAX server and deliver the faxes to their inboxes in Outlook. The dial-plan I am thinking of using is

dial-plan voice 10000 pots

direct-inward-dial

destination-pattern 555555[5,6]..[1,3,5,7,9]

trunkgroup FAXMAIN

Please let me know if this is the most efficient way of routing the faxes (or if it even will work). Thank you in advance.

Re: DID Routing to FAX Server through PRI

What type of Fax Server do you have? You could use T.37 to send the faxes directly to Outlook from the router. Lets assume your company is Widgets and your domain name for e-mail is widgets.com. Also, keep in mind that since you are not sending it to Unity, you need an MMOIP dila peer per mailbox so depending on the number of users you have, it might not scale.

1. This link will give you more background and the link you need to download the app_faxmail_onramp.2.0.1.3.tcl script which you will need to upload to flash:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_configuration_example09186a0080387d62.shtml

2. Create an Active Directory user of FAXUSER

3. Config

fax interface-type fax-mail

mta send server port 25

mta send with-subject both

mta send mail-from hostname FELDCOFAX.widgets.com

mta send mail-from username FAXUSER

mta receive aliases joe@widgets.com

mta receive aliases tom@widgets.com

mta receive aliases rick@widgets.com

mta receive aliases jerry@widgets.com

!

application

service onramp flash:app_faxmail_onramp.2.0.1.3.tcl

!

!

dial-peer voice 5001 mmoip

service fax_on_vfc_onramp_app out-bound

destination-pattern 5001

information-type fax

session target mailto:joe@widgets.com

!

dial-peer voice 5007 mmoip

service fax_on_vfc_onramp_app out-bound

destination-pattern 5003

information-type fax

session target mailto:tom@widgets.com

!

dial-peer voice 5005 mmoip

service fax_on_vfc_onramp_app out-bound

destination-pattern 5005

information-type fax

session target mailto:rick@widgets.com

!

dial-peer voice 5007 mmoip

service fax_on_vfc_onramp_app out-bound

destination-pattern 5007

information-type fax

session target mailto:jerry@widgets.com

As you can see it doesn't scale but works if you don't have Right Fax or something. Basically, the router answers the fax call > receives the fax > and sends a .tif to the users Outlook mailbox.

If you DO have a Right Fax or something and you have a bunch of FXS ports connected to a Dialogic card or something on a Fax server than your original config:

dial-plan voice 10000 pots

direct-inward-dial

destination-pattern 555555[5,6]..[1,3,5,7,9]

trunkgroup FAXMAIN

assuming your trunkgroup contains all the FXS ports you should be fine.

Re: DID Routing to FAX Server through PRI

Yes, this will work. Couldn't think of a better way of doing this.

You may want to take out the commas as it would introduce delays in dialing

dial-plan voice 10000 pots

destination-pattern 555555[56]..[13579]

Re: DID Routing to FAX Server through PRI

The commas are required in the [] to indicate a non-sequential range, correct?

There should be no delay?
