DIRT Backup not working, Rights are assigned. Exmerge error

I followed the directions to grant the proper rights to the user running the DIRT tool. I've successfully run DIRT at other customer sites.

This server started life as a W2K with Unity 2.46, Exchange 5.5

Just finished upgrade to Unity 4.03, Exchange 2000

Below is the log from the DIRT tool. It seems to be unhappy with the Exmerge utiltiy.

Is this still a rights issue ?

yeah, almost certainly a send as/receive as rights issue on the mailstores with the account you're logged in as running DiRt backup.

DiRT simply constructs an INI file to pass to exMerge and then lets it run, I have no control over it beyond that. You can try running ExMerge directly yourself with the same account - the same errors will come up. Take a look at the ExMerge logs generated - I'm sure you'll see things along the lines of mailbox login failures and MAPI connection failures - both signs of rights issues.

One thing I reccomend to folks is to use the message store facing account (i.e. the one associated with the AvCsMgr account) when running DiRT backup - in most cases you should be covered here on mailstore rights if you do that.

It wasnt a permissions issue, but the tip of just running exmerge was a good one. It had an error message about not being able to find the exchmem.dll file. I copied it into the exchsrvr directory and all is well.
