DiRT restore issues

Using the DiRT tools to back a temporary server and move the 40 users and their mailbox (with messages) to the newly built server.

The restore will not move past the section where we get the message "failed to get exclusive access to SQL to perform the restore"

We have stopped and restarted the MSSQLSERVER and SQLSERVERAGENTS service. We have also waited the 20 minutes as the DiRT instruction offer as an alternative.

Any suggestions on how to get past this point?

Re: DiRT restore issues

Are you sure you have the latest?

Make sure the aVCsGateway service is killed AND the little tray application is stopped - both those will aggressivley log back into SQL when it's up if they're left running. The latest DiRT restore SHOULD kill both... if not, let me know.

Re: DiRT restore issues

Yes, that was the problem.

We left MSSQLServer and aVCsGateway "stopped" for about 15 minutes, than we restarted MSSQLServer again and this time aVCsGateway stayed stopped. Clicked OK to proceed on the Restore tool, and it this tiem it went through fine.

Not sure if we missed something but having the services stopped for a while before restarting MSSQLServer appeared to do the trick (not sure why).

thank you,

Miguel
