Display DNIS when phones ring

We are planning for a customer that will have a PRI going into a 2811, and the system will have a CallManager and Unity server. There are 5 departments with one person assigned to each department. The main published number and each department will have their own DID, but anytime a call comes into any of these DIDs, they want it to do longest-idle hunting between the 5 users in these departments and have the phone show either the name of the department or the dialed number so they can answer the call appropriately such as "Sales", "Service", "Finance", etc. The routing shouldn't be too much of an issue, but what is the best way to have the phones show the dialed number on the phones?

Note - Even though it would be very simple to do a "press 1 for sales, 2 for service, 3 for finance" configuration, they do NOT want an automated attendant, they want a live person to answer.

Thanks,

Kevin

Kevin,

Here's one way to accomplish this:

1. Create a CTI Route Point and assign a DN.

2. Set Forward All to the pilot point for your hunt group.

3. Set the Display Name (Internal Caller ID) to the company name.

4. Setup a translation pattern to translate incoming calls for a particular DID to the DN of this route point.

5. Do this for each company

On the phone, you will see Forward for CompanyName (DN)

Hope this helps. If so, please rate the post.

Re: Display DNIS when phones ring

Can we take this one more step and have both the "Forward for CompanyName DN" and the actual caller ID show up? This way the people answering the phones can tell that it is a call for a certain department and also tell what number they are calling from. I'm not sure how much info is allowed on the display of the IP phones. These are primarily going to be 7940s and 7960s.

Thanks in advance!

Kevin

Re: Display DNIS when phones ring

Kevin,

One way to make this work is to change the Calling Name Presentation on the translation pattern to Restricted. There's not enough room for calling name/number and the forward for name. This configuration will allow you to see the caller ID number and the forwarding name.

Hope this helps.
