I have a customer who currently has a door phone with a opening controller that works with a legacy key system. Is there a way I can replicate this in AVVID environment? Has anyone implemented succesfully/ Appreciate any feedback.

Sure. You will just need an ATA, Vg248, or fxs port on a router. The door ringers typically are just an analog station.

How about the opening controller? Do I need another ATA for this?

Use an FXS port on a router. I am using this today and it works very well.
