DSCP and QOS for voice

Voice and data are through MPLS cloud. MPLS cloud is providing the priority for DSCP 46 and 31 from carrier,I think 46 and 31 is the precedence 5 and 3.

IP phones are connected to 3550 L3 switch , which hook to MPLS PE router. My questions are

1. Is boundary trust on by default on switch and IP phone send precendece 5 and 3 packets to switch?

2.Does swithc auto recognize DSCP 46 from IP phone or I have to configure something on the L3 switch to map precedence 5 and 3 to DSCP so that MPLS can prioritize it?

Thanks

Re: DSCP and QOS for voice

You do need to enable QOS on the switch, and ensure that the phone ports have QOS setup (you can use the autoqos command). The port connecting to the MPLS router should be set to trust DSCP. The phones will properly set the DSCP, and the switch will not change it.
