Are these two seperate functions?

The DSP sharing and DSP farming terms are sometimes used interchangeably in Cisco docs.

Because the Cisco IOS dspfarm command is used for both DSP sharing and DSP farming, people are confused about what these functions are. DSP farming term was originally used to describe using DSPs as media resources for CCM. DSP sharing allows C5510 DSPs to terminate a voice call from a voice port that is located in another HW slot.

DSP sharing is enabled with the dspfarm command in voice card config.

Configuring DSPs to provide transcoding or conferencing resources is often refferred to as DSP farming. As noted earlier, this term is also sometimes applied to DSP sharing because of CLI dspfarm is used to configured both apps.

Because the term DSP farming is somewaht ambiguos, it is preferrable to explicity state which of the featres you are referring to.

dsp services dspfarm is used to configure the Voice Card to support transcoding and conference.

In the following link you will notice the difference when configuring C549 and C5510s.

I am slow and confused this morning. Still confused on the NO DSPFARM command. I beleive what I read is that the DSPFARM command is used for the DSPs on the T1/PRI and the DSP SERVICES DSPFARM is used for conferencing and transcoding. Is this assumption correct.

A DSP farm is the collection of DSP resources available for conferencing, transcoding, and MTP services. DSP farms are configured on the voice gateway and managed by Cisco Unified CallManager through Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP).

The DSP farm can support a combination of transcoding sessions, MTP sessions, and conferences simultaneously. The DSP farm maintains the DSP resource details locally. Cisco Unified CallManager requests conferencing or transcoding services from the gateway, which either grants or denies these requests, depending on resource availability. The details of whether DSP resources are used, and which DSP resources are used, are transparent to Cisco Unified CallManager.

The DSP farm uses the DSP resources in network modules on Cisco routers to provide voice-conferencing, transcoding, and hardware MTP services.
