I am using Adobe Priemiere to edit in .avi the convert to mpeg1 using Ulead, any othere editing of converting suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Editing for IP/TV consumption

TMPEGEnc is a very poprlar, free, stand-alone, utility for converting .mov and .avi files to MPEG. If you want to use the MPEG2 capabilities of TMPGEnc, then a license must be purchased for ~US$50.00

The ligos CODEC works pretty well with Premiere, as well as the included Digigami CODEC. The Ligos plug-in for Premiere is a couple hundred dollars, Digigami is included on the Premiere CD.
