Aborted exchange install in unity and now unable to remove unity server from pdc and can't join site because the server name is already in the domain. We have already tried to delete the server name from the pdc's server manager and have tried changing the name of the unity server.

I'm not entirely sure what you have going on there but the vast majority of RPC errors (you'll see many out here relating to MTA issues and the like) are related in one way or another to a DNS issue. RPC binds to the target PC and binds back to the calling PC using machine names, not IP addresses. Typically when you see any kind of RPC error (or bind or bind back error) this is where you start. Search around MSDN and you'll see a bunch of articles on how to troubleshoot these errors if you get stuck.
