If the server is completely out of space Exchange (assuming it's on the server) will hit the dirt and take us down with it. If there's no room at all to log, I think Unity will choke coming up as well.
short story - don't run the system out of hard drive space. You can trigger notification events when the HD gets under 5 or 10% of space available to help alert you to the fact...
