Fax fails intermitently - RTP stream killed with Port Unreachable?
I'm working to diagnose a problem where faxing between two sites fails intermitently. We are using fax passthrough, and the native codec is g711.
The remote fax machine is attached to an ATA-186, and the local side is connected to a VG248.
The machine will dial, then connect, the begin to send pages, but somewhere during the sending process, it will fail.
A packet capture of traffic between the VG and the ATA shows the RTP stream looking good, then out of the blue, the VG248 will send an ICMP Port Unreachable to the ATA, saying that the last UDP port the ATA attempted to send to is unreachable. Once this unreachable is sent, the RTP stream immediately stops.
Can anyone tell me what would cause the VG248 to send a Port Unreachable to the ATA?
We see this same problem if both fax machines are connected to ATAs.
