Re: Fax with ATA

Eric,

Here is the document for setting up Fax on the ATA. I would recommend disabling fax relay on your gateway (assuming IOS) and apply either on of the configurations in this document.

Re: Fax with ATA

which GW you are using? If it is H.323, you might need to migrate to MGCP, so that you will see thing changes lot for the faxing issue.

Re: Fax with ATA

Is the ATA and GW in the same lan ?

ATA supports only fax passthrough. Since your fax uses g3, you may end up having problems with faxing, because of the higher speeds (you can get up to 33.6 kbps on g3 machines). Ata supports only up to 14.4 kbps speeds.

On the h323 gateway to enable fax passthrough, do the following,

dial-peer voice 1 voip

destination-pattern <>

sessoin target ipv4:

modem passthrough nse codec g711ulaw

fax rate disable

codec g711ulaw (if in same lan)

The ata (sccp) default settings should be enough for fax passthrough (0x00350035 for audiomode and 0x90000400 for connect mode).

Re: Fax with ATA

Are you using port o (line 1) on the ATA to make the outbound fax? If not, try switching it there.
