What is placed in the address field of a frame that will travel from the DC to Orlando office?

Is it DLCI 200 (which I beleive) or DLCI 200 and DLCI (100)?

Hi,

Between the DC Office and the Frame relay cloud, it will be DLCI 200. Between the Frame relay cloud and the Orlando office, it will be 100. Within the FR cloud, the DLCI could change multiple times, depending on how many FR hops there are ...

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Hello,

the underlying reason for DLCI 200 is, that DLCI values have only local scope. So there can be one DLCI value between your router and the FR switch of the SP. In reality most FR providers will transport your data inside ATM cells across their backbone. at the other end of your FR PVC the FR switch will reassemble the FR frame, insert the locally defined DLCI value and send it to your router.

As there are only 10 Bits, i.e. 1024 DLCI values, a global addressing scheme like in IP would not be feasable in FR.

Hope this helps! PLease rate all posts.
