G723.1 codec issue

Hi All!

I'm doing interworking test with 3rd party VoIP GW and I encounter problem with G.723 (6.3K)codec on 2600 router. Call from Cisco2600 to VoIPGW works OK, but call from VoIP GW to Cisco 2600 can not be established with G.723. It is rejected from some unkown reason and established with G.711 (second codec preference on VoIP GW is G.711). G.711 and G.729 are working OK both-way.

Has anyone experiance this behaivor? Is it possible to configure codec preference on POTS dial-peer to support only G.723.

Best regards,

Tomaz

Re: G723.1 codec issue

Hi Tomaz,

This could be complexity issue. Please have a look at following URL..

Hope that helps..

Re: G723.1 codec issue

Hi Keaton,

Unfortunately this is not the case here. I'm looking for a solution where I can set preference for codecs on POTS side (not VoIP). Meanwhile we discover if VoIP GW offers codecs G.729 in G.711, Cisco selects G.729; if VoIP GW offers G.723 and G.711 Cisco selects G.711.

How can I change this behaivour on Cisco box?

Best regards,

Re: G723.1 codec issue

Hi Tomaz,

There is no way you can configure set of preference codec on pots side. Codec is only used on VoIP side, having said that have you configured class and defined g.723 as your first preference codec and g711 as second. Also make sure under voice card command you have complexity high. It is possible that gateway may try to choose g723 codec first but since the dsp does not support the codec it falls to g711. You can also confirm this by running "debug vtsp all".

codec preference 5 g729br8

codec preference 6 g729r8

codec preference 7 g726r16

codec preference 8 g728

codec preference 9 g726r24

codec preference 10 g726r32

!

!

dial-peer voice 11 voip

incoming called-number .

voice-class codec 1
