30 VIP/12 SP+ phones running G729 could talk to any 30 VIP/12SP+ running either G711 or G729, or to any 7960 running G729, but could not talk to Unity 2.46, 7960 running G711. 7960 phone running G729 could talk to Unity 2.46. <br><br>Could anyone tell me the tricks here about the codec ? Re: G729 on old ip phones

The 12 SP+/30 VIP phones are not capable of doing the G.729 code. They can only do G.711 and G.723.

The rule is that if two legacy phones are in a region that is set to do G.729 they can change to a different code only if it requires less bandwidth. i.e. G.723.

If you have any a 12 SP+/30 VIP talking with a 79X0 phone or Unity is has to use G.711 so the call SHOULD fail unless you have a transcoder.

If you hit the 'i' button twice on the 7960 when talking with the 12 SP+/30 VIP what codec does it show?
