Gateway disconnects call to Unity after 36 seconds

I had to replace a production gateway for a customer today because of a hardware problem. After I put the new router into service, the customer began complaining that callers were getting disconnected after 36 seconds when leaving a message in Unity. I compared the configs on the old and new router and noticed the following commands missing on the new router:

mgcp rtp unreachable timeout 1000 action notify

mgcp modem passthrough voip mode nse

mgcp package-capability rtp-package

no mgcp package-capability res-package

mgcp package-capability sst-package

no mgcp package-capability fxr-package

no mgcp timer receive-rtcp

mgcp sdp simple

mgcp fax t38 inhibit

no mgcp explicit hookstate

mgcp rtp payload-type g726r16 static

Pasting these commands into the configuration seemed to solve the problem.

Since this is a production device, I didn't have time to determine which single command fixed the problem. I'm wondering if anyone can explain which command's absence may have caused the problem.

The gateway in question is a 2651XM with a VWIC-1MFT-T1 running 12.3(11)T8.

Voice Messaging Stops After 30 Seconds

Symptom

When running Cisco Unity 3.x with Cisco CallManager, a caller only has 30 seconds in which to leave a voice-mail message.

Possible Cause

This problem occurs when a caller is leaving a voice message and the call is terminated 30 seconds into the message. Reproduce this easily by dialing a valid extension/number and attempting to leave a voice message that is longer than 30 seconds.

Recommended Action

1. To resolve this problem, verify that the Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) is being used on the voice gateway.

2. If the MGCP is being used, add the no mgcp timer receive-rtcp command.

3. If MGCP is not on the voice gateway, enable Skinny traces for the Cisco Unity server and Cisco CallManager traces.

V-mail will be cut off after 40sec if call via MGCP gateway

If the outside call comes via MRP with MGCP protocol and ring a phone with no answer, it will hit Unity and the caller leaves a V-mail. But the V-mail will

be cut off after ~40 sec. when the caller hear "click".

Another MRP running same software but using H.323 protocol has no such problem.

Work-around

===========

1) Disable RTCP timer in MGCP. Using global config:

router-name(config)#no mgcp timer receive-rtcp

2) Using H.323 protocol instead of MGCP protocol.
