GlobalSubscriber Manager Error

We just installed Unity 3.12 this week and installed the GSM tool - I've granted my AD account access to the UnityDB (public/db_datareader) and my account is setup in Unity as an Administrator of the box (and is in fact a Domain Admin as well).<br><br>The GSM shows the select server dialog box and indicates successful connection to the UNity server, then throughs up an error:<br><br>unexpected error in: mdlInitialize | initGlobalVariables Error #94: Invalid use of Null<br><br>Something I missed? :-) I wasn't sure if I'd missed a step or not...<br><br>Thanks!<br><br> - ken<br><br><br>Ken Johnson<br>Mgr. Actually, I lied... I just posted it tonight on AnswerMonkey. Version 1.0.8 has this fixed and is available for download. It'll be on CCO in a few days (probably Monday).

Thanks! Downloaded it! I removed 1.07 and installed 1.08 - It's unfortunately giving me the same error as previous - are there any "clean-out" steps I should take? (I'm going to go try it on a machine that's never had it too . . .

Just to follow up... We got into their box remotely and looked around. Turns out the global locations table in SQL (this holds information on all the location objects in the entire directory) had a "Null" value for the home server, which should not be legal. Updating this to have a home server value fixed the problem and they're off to the races.

For you playing along at home, the easy way to fix this is to update your primary location object (i.e. just give it an ID and/or change your display name on it) and save it. This will force the home server value into the global locations table and all is well.

We'll fix up GSM to check for this specifically and put a readable warning up to tell you to do this if this condition is seen.

Update - well it hung in there for a month or so - but three days ago we noticed it wasn't working again - the same "null" value...only this time it brought a friend home for dinner :-)

Now when we "find" a subscriber and click on their name to bring up their profile, the URL inserted is:

http://warning: could not find home server/Web/Sa/FrameASP/SubsFrame.asp?DirId=3d5d2963870fd847a1acb49f86cfe4c6&Alias=BeckyBiggs&Server=&Database=&MailBoxId=&FirstName=Rebecca&LastName=Biggs&UserName=Becky Biggs&MailStoreType=&Smtp=&NavWidth=205

if we replace http://warning: could not find home server/ with http://leah/ (the name of the server) it works fine...

I tried updating the location object as suggested to try to re-fix the GSM issue (hoping it might also fix the Subscriber Profile issue) but no dice - i didn't restart Unity or SQL after the Location Object Update - would that be required?

This is very strange. The text "warning: could not find home server" doesn't exist in the GSM anywhere. Can you export your GlobalLocation table from SQL to a CSV file and send it to me?

Ah sorry - I should have clarified - the GSM problem has returned certainly - but that was merely simultaneous with the "warning: could not find home server" error which is occuring when clicking on subscribers in the main administration web site (SA)

Check your Location Table as well. The GSM uses the GlobalLocation and GlobalSubscriber tables but the SA uses Location and Subscriber. I'm guessing you'll find a blank homeserver in the Location table, see if changing it to LEAH corrects the SA.

What version of Unity is this? I'm going to ask around to see if anyone else has seen this problem and whether or not there is an easy fix.

Ok - this is version 3.1(2)

Amazing - you were right - the location table had a value - and changin it to LEAH fixed the SA too :-) Thanks! If this leaqds anyone to believe there is something on our installation that needs to be addressed I'm all ears - certainly don't want to have to do this again if it's a fault on our end somewhere :-)

You say the location table had a value, what was the value of the Homeserver column? There is only a single Unity on your network correct? Was this an upgrade or a fresh install of 3.1(2)?

Oops - it was HTML'ing my text - sorry the Homeserver value was NULL (with angle brackets around it which i can't post in this board :-) - this is a single unity server on one site - the server originally started as a 3.0 EFT - then went to 3.02 - then to 3.12 via std. upgrades (to the best of my recollection :-)

Update - I checked the SQL GlobalLocation table (after of course sending it on :-) and sure enough the home server value was again - changed it back to LEAH and the GSM works - still not certain why it reverted back to

...But the "unable to find home server" web address errors in SA remain even with this fix. . .

Curious no? :-)
