Hardware for Voip

Hi All,

In getting into this voip stuff, I have come to a point where i am slightly confused about the hardware. All of my sites will have 2800 series routers. What I do not understand is this whole DSP idea and how many do I need?! Can someone shed some light?

DSPs are used for media termination (PSTN connectivity), conferencing, and transcoding. The number you need depends on the number of PSTN calls, conferences, and transcoding sessions you need to support. The following link has some good information regarding the number of calls supported by different platforms/modules.

Thank you for the links. These are very helpful. One more question. I know what I ordered on my routers, but we all know how that goes. is there a cli command for me to find out exactly how many dsp's i have ? or just more info?
