I understand Cisco gateways already support SIP and H323 calls, but

this is not enough to operate a real heterogeneous network.

In a heterogeneous network you can have:

- endpoints that support both protocols and others that support only one;

- external calls from third parties using SIP or H323,

And you want to:

- allow full interconnection between originators and terminators with alternative routing paths

- apply a global protocol-independent routing policy

- have protocol-independent CDR sources, even for endpoints that

do not generate call records

How Cisco expect to meet these requirements?

You are actually touching on a serious interoperabilty issue that is prohibitting many ISPs from taking full advantage of the emerging SIP technology while having the luxary of keeping legacy H323 netwroks/customers.
