How do I start?

Hi guys,

Currently, I intend to try VoIP in a LAN environment. The tools/equipments I have here are only the Cisco IP communicator software phone and Cisco 3745 and 2811 routers.

Can you advise me on how to I start out? The objective is simple. Just to let the users in that LAN to do VoIP usig the softphones. Btw, is callmanager free to use if I have those Cisco routers?

Re: How do I start?

Hello Kengyiam,

You can use the call manager express software on the router to have call routing in place. this software license is not free. you might need to buy a CME license ---> FL-CCME-SMALL Cisco Call Manager Express Feat License For Up To 24 Users. This is a low cost license.

Once u have this license, you can configure the CME to switch calls between the IP comm PCs. refer to :

hope this helps.. all the best..

Hmmmm... if that is the case, how do I check that CME license is already installed in my router? Im not too sure whether this router already has this license. THanks.

Re: How do I start?

What your really install is not the license, but a set of files that together make up the CallManager Express features. The license is a permission from Cisco to make use of those files.

Try a show flash, if you only have the IOS image file, then you don't have CME installed. After installing CME, several files and directories are copied to flash.

Go to

Then select CCME/SRST

After you have purchased the license, you can download the image file from this site and install it. For instructions on installing CCME refer to and
