how does Unity notify CallManager which IP Phone to turn on/off MWI light

We have installed an third party voicemail system and I wonder whether is there a way for my voicemail system to dial certain digits to notify CallManager to turn on/off the MWI light, I have already configured the ext no for MWI on and MWI off. Please advice !

If you are not using Unity, you will need to run a serial cable from COM1 on the call manager and enable the Messaging Interface service to all SMDI messages to go back and fourth.

We are using that currently and we are exploring the Unity method for my voicemail server without using the serial cable.

Unity talks to Callmanager using Skinny messages.

For MWI, Unity places a call to Callmanager's MWI ON/OFF DN and provides the extension number of the mailbox as the calling number. Callmanager uses the calling number that Unity provided to identify the phone and change the MWI accordingly.

We are having a problem occassionally when a voice mail is deleted from the Outlook's Inbox or is listened to already (which wouldn't make it an unread voice mail anymore in the Outlook or a new voice mail anymore theoretically), the red light on the IP phone 7960 (MWI notification) isn't turned off.

We would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.
