how many IP Phones prefered in one voice vlan?

Does Cisco have best practice/recommendsation about the maxium IP phones prefered in one vlan?

If you read the SRND guide, it says as a rule of thumb limit the number < 512. I would say 512 is still a big number. If you have multiple floors and each floor has wiring closet, with 28 or 48 port switches, configure a vlan per wiring closet. I would suggest to keep the maximum number < 254 (One class C subnet).
