How to configure 20 channels of an MGCP E1 gw on the CCM

Hi everybody,

I'd like to know if it's possible to configure an MGCP gateway on the CCM using only 20 channels of an E1 instead of using all the E1 channels.

Thanks for your help

Irene

Not really no. You tell the CCM about the E1 and then when the CCM does an AUEP for the ports, the gateway will only tell the CCM about the fiorst 20 ports, so the CCM will know that the rest are not in service and no calls will go to those.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your answer,

In fact, the result of the AUEP is a busy tonality

By default the CCM tries to open the 31 channels and then the result of all the outgoing calls are a busy tonality when the E1 is only 20 channels.

Then its seems that the CCM isn't able to analyse that the rest are not in service.

Best regards

Irene

Sorry,

Please read, "the CCM tries to open the channel 31 first..."

There is a CCM Service parameter called ChangeBChannelMaintenanceStatus1 which can help you to mark some B channels as out of service or you can select channel order to be "Top-bottom" in the PRI configuration page so that CCM uses the 1st channel.

I hope it helps

Murat

Thanks Murat,

I think that this parameter is the same like the one on the CCM MCGP configuration gw which name is "Channel selection order"

But do you thing that the CCM is able to use the channel 1 to 20 and will now that the channel 21 is out of order because I paid the provider only for 20 channels ?

It is different, and is used to provide support for fractional E1 or PRI for up to 5 gateways. You need to check "Enable Status Poll" on the gateway, update, and reset. Then in ADVANCED CallManager service parameters populate the ChangeBChannelMaintenanceStatusx field with:

DEVICE NAME = BCHANNEL MAINTENANCE STATUS

giving the status of each channel. For example:

S1/DS1-0@DLS2-CM136-VG200-2 = 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 1111 1111 1111

(32 bits for E1. BChannel number begins with 1 to 32 from left to right. The 16th channel is DChannel. The last bit won't affect any channel. In this example, 21st-31st channels are marked out of service).

The DEVICE NAME MUST be exact the same as the gateway name on the top of the gatway configuration web page. "=" is mandatory and unique to distinguish the DEVICE NAME and BCHANNEL MAINTENANCE STATUS fields. BCHANNEL MAINTENANCE STATUS = xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx Where x can be:

0: in service;

1: graceful out of service (change channel status until active call ends if there is an active call on that channel);

2: forceful out of service (tear down active call first, then change channel status immediately if there is an active call on that channel).

Any other value will be treated as invalid and won't take effect. The total number of 'x' MUST be either 24 for T1 or 32 for E1. Any other invalid length or mismatch(e.g. 24 for E1) will be treated as an error and no action will be taken for that device. SPACE: optional. The spaces between device name and "=", between .=. and BCHANNEL MAINTENANCE STATUS, between x and x, are all optional. No space is allowed inside the DEVICE NAME field.
