How to Remove Clear Cache Entry (DNS)

Hi,

1. I configured DNS on a cisco router using the cli ip name-server x.x.x.x

2. Tried to ping one of the devices using its hostname.

3. I removed dns server on router and now there is no 'ip name-server x.x.x.x' on the device

4. Ping the same device, host1 again

and the ping is working.

It seems there is an entry for it in the Cache and only after I reload the device it is cleared.

Can I know if there is some cli that I can use to remove the entry from cache without reloading the device?

Thanks,

Radhika

Re: How to Remove Clear Cache Entry (DNS)

Use the enable mode command "clear host" such as:

router#clear host hostname (to delete a specific host)

or

router#clear host * (to delete all hosts)

Hope this helps. If so, please rate the post.

Re: How to Remove Clear Cache Entry (DNS)

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for the information.

I tried 'clear host all *' and it removed all the entries from hosttable.

Thanks,

Radhika

Damnably irritating that all

Damnably irritating that all search queries lead back to this post.

This IS NOT the answer for a 2911 using DNS Views I can tell you.

I've yet to find the answer to my caching issue, but you can be sure I will post it when I find out!
