Currently, I believe the inline power protocol Cisco uses is proprietary to Cisco devices. You cannot plug other devices into the switch and use it as a power source because they do not speak the appropriate CDP 'language'. If a standard, inline power protocol emerges, I'm sure Cisco will implement it.
