IP Communicator QoS Issues

I'm playing with IP Communicator over a VPN and have noticed that when I start launching applications the voice quality degrades substantially. I don't think it's a QoS issue as a regular IP phone is crystal clear. Is there a way to guarantee that IP Communicator packets have precedence over data packets leaving the pc?
