IP phone on non-cisco switches

Hi,

I have a simple question. When you put Cisco IP phones on non-cisco switches.

what about the VLAN's ?

is it still possible to work with two vlan's ?(Data & voice)

if yes ? how ?

I have to configure a 802.1Q trunk on the switch with a tagged vlan which that will correspond to the voice vlan and an untagged vlan that will correspond to the data vlan ?

on the IP phone ? I have two vlan's configurable in the settings ?

Administrative and operational vlan ... which is the voice vlan ?

a lot of questions .... but ... it is not easy to find the answer on CCO ...

regards

Frederic

Re: IP phone on non-cisco switches

You are on the right track. No problem doing dot1q trunk on a non-Cisco switch and configuring QoS and such, the Operational VLAN ID is the voice VLAN identifier that you will have to configure on the phone and you can setup the data VLAN to be untagged. I have implemented this type of config with many non-Cisco switch platforms such as Extreme, Intel, HP, 3Com, etc.

Good Luck,

Pat
