Folks,

I want to learn iptoip gateway feature in 2.4. I have been reading about it but i am still not sure. One of the things i an do with it is place it between 2 gateways and do transcoding, basically receive a call from one gateway at g711 and send it to the other using g.729. what i am not clear about it as follows:

1)do i need a gatekeeper to make iptoip gateway to work?

2)how i register dsps with the iptoip gateway?

will sure rate this post.

You need a gatekeeper with the IPIPGW only when you want to enforce CAC between the two legs. IPIPGW can work with out Gatekeepers too. IPIPGW supports not just H323 but also sip. So you could have any combination of these two protocols (H323 and SIP) at any one time. Remember that Gatekeepers use only H323 protocol.

To make use of transcoding on the IPIPGW, you can setup CME or SRST configuration locally on the router. The purpose of setting this up is to trigger transcoding and not for registering phones to it.
