Hi,

Is it possible to have 2 Publisher in 1:1 mode in a CCM cluster to avoid a single point of failure..in a cluster to support 20K+ users...If yes, then how to use the standby server or any option one can suggest towards redundancy...Though as per Cisco guideline this is not suggested but was thinking of a way for redundancy...

Thanks in advance..

With best regards,

Mani

This is what subscribers will do. If the Pub goes down for any reason, the subs are there to handle the phone requests. You typically "divide your eggs" among the subscribers. Maybe even offload TFTP elsewhere, MOH on another server, split registered gateways among the servers. The more you divide, the less chance you have a major failure (if)

Thanks for reply... But let's say Publisher is totally down or crashed. In that scenario lot of things will be impacted (Like any changes-add,deletion and other stuff). I know that normal call will keep on running whoever are already registered with their respective subscriber but it will have impact if publisher is down for a day. Isn't a good idea to have a cluster too for publisher...Just thinking why in the desine there is no standby Publisher available(userbase of 20K+ is some what have different scenario)and when using Extensive Mobility feature I feel a outage will have big role on service..2nd, How many TFTP server is possible in a HUB & Spoke setup..

there is no solution for 'clustering' the publisher as you request.

the best things you can do to minimize outages in the case of 20k plus users are:

1) use multiple clusters to provide call processing to your users; a gatekeeper should be used for, among other things, to ease the dial plan administration across the clusters.

2) take all possible tasks off of the publisher. make it so your publisher only provides configuration and CDR functionality.

(it doesn't need to provide MOH, CTI manager, streaming media, TFTP or other such functions as long as there are other systems available to provide these functions)

other than admin/configuration and CDR, all other vital call processing functions can be put onto subscribers, other servers in the case of directory/XML features, etc.

also, there can be two TFTP servers defined for use as well as an 'alternate TFTP'. (which is configured statically)

Thanks alot for clarification... I planned the same thing...but the number of server has gone more then 20+ towards offloading feature from Publisher :-)

With best regards,

Mani
