I am looking for a time scale for the release of a lotus notes integration

You'll need to have Exchange installed off the Unity servers on a 3rd box... there's no other way to approach this since if you have it on one of the Exchange servers and that system goes off line then all subscribers can't get at their messages which sort of defeats the purpose of having a failover configuration in the first place.

But then we are going to need clustering on the exchange box or that will be the single point of failure. is that correct?

technically yes, although a number of sites have installed this configuraiton without Exchange clustering.

By the way, did you post two seperate questions? One about lotus and one about failover? Looks like the forum links got crossed up there somehow or another... odd...
