Low Message Volume

Hello,

Are there any ways to increase the volume of message playback? We have the router reducing the volume of calls due to echo issues. However, when Unity receives a call from the PSTN, the volume is lower. Then, when a user calls in from the outside, the volume is lowered yet again rendering the playback volume so low it is barely able to be heard. We have tried pressing 5 to increase volume on playback but the volume increase isn't even noticable. Ultimately we would like to be able to be able to create a routing rule that would increase calls coming in from the PSTN. Is this possible even in part?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

yes, you can adjust the playback volume and/or the record boost in Unity 2.x to help with this problem but no, there's no way in 2.x to dynamically boost/reduce volume based on inbound call origin.

In Unity 3.1(1) and later there is AGC (automatic gain control) built in that allows Unity to dynamically adjust the volume of an inbound recording up or down to push it towards a designated dB level (-26 by default but adjustable). This is really the only good solution to your problem. In versions prior to that everything is a static bump up or down on playback or record levels.

You can check out the audio decision tech tip on www.AnswerMonkey.net which may help you a bit for the 2.x version. It's on the general tools page.
