MailView question

It is not clear to me that does MailView (of CIPPS) work without Unity?

Can it be used to see mails on an Exchange server, or it strictly requires Unity?

Mailview is a just an IMAP4/SMTP client . It works both with Exchange server and Unity. It is mainly used for Emails but it can store voice messages also provided it is integrated with Cisco Unity. Mailview alone cannot store voice messages. Cisco recommends to integrate MailVIew with Unity for the sake of single point of communication(unified messaging)
