Max User on router c1861

I see in the documentation in this router support a maximun of 12 user or 12 IP phones, but only it has a 8 fast-ethernet port.

I need a switch connected in a port on router in mode trunk to connected the rest of the phones?

If I want to use 15 or more IP phones it is possible? If I do it how before?

Re: Max User on router c1861

Yes, you would need another switch to connect the rest of the phones. I believe you can go slightly over the 12 phone limit. For example, on a 2821 you can configure "max-ephones 52" even though the maximum supported is 48.

Hope this helps. If so, please rate the post.

Re: Max User on router c1861

Hi Miguel,

The 1861 will work for a very small Branch Offices and can be expanded to(15 phones max) if you need more than 15 then maybe go for a 2801 for expansion purposes (support for 24 phones);

Cisco 1861 Integrated Services Routers

Q. What is the Cisco 1861?

A. The Cisco 1861, which is part of the Cisco 1800 Series Integrated Services Router portfolio, is a unified communications solution targeted at small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and enterprise small branch offices. This solution provides voice, data, voicemail, Automated-Attendant, video, and security capabilities while integrating with existing desktop applications such as calendar, e-mail, and customer relationship management (CRM) programs. This platform takes full advantage of business-class, proven unified communications technologies and supports flexible deployment models based on your needs-a wide array of IP phones, public switched telephone network (PSTN) interfaces, and Internet connectivity.

Core components include the following:

• Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME) or Cisco Unified Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) for call processing

This solution is targeted at customers interested in deploying a converged IP telephony solution for up to 15 IP phones.Provides flexibility and investment protection by allowing the optional upgrade of the default 8-user CME/SRST license to 15 users.License-based upgrades are now orderable and enable customers to upgrade the 8-user version of the Cisco 1861 Integrated Services Router to 15 users.Cisco IOS Release 12.4(22)T or later is required for upgrade from 8-to-15 users

Q. How many Fast Ethernet ports are on the Cisco 1861?

A. The Cisco 1861 has 8 PoE switch ports, which are all Fast Ethernet ports. In addition, there are 2 Fast Ethernet ports onboard, one of which is connected directly to the CPU and so is a routed port, whereas the second is a switch uplink port connected to the onboard 8 PoE switch ports. This second Fast Ethernet port may be used as an expansion port to an external switch if more PoE switch ports are required.

From these good docs;

Hope this helps!

EDIT: Brandon, you are too quick for me this morning (as usual ;-)
