Method for initiating a security Alert using CCM from reception area

We want to be able to have our front reception staff be able to press a button and alert multiple people that there is situation going on in that area. We already have a 911 alert button that notifies emergency personnel, but want a ?lesser offence? service to just get extra bodies in case someone is causing a problem.

So far we have just added a second line appearance on a handful of users phones and have a speed dial button on the receptionist phone. Problem with this it the reception phone goes immediately to speaker and you then start hearing dialing as well as possibly someone answering ?hello, hello?. We?d like this to be a silent alert from the receptionist standpoint. Also it might be nice to do something other than go away from everyone?s phone after someone pickup up the call.

Does anyone have a suggestion of how better to do this?

Hi Mike,

Just to add a note to Brandons good info. We use a method exactly like your setup. We ask the user to quickly press the "Headset" button before pressing the Speed dial button. This makes it a completly silent connection in the Originating area. It is always helpful to disable the Speakerphone in Open/Public areas as well :)

Hope this helps!

Take a look at IPsession by IPcelerate. It includes a Panic Button Alert function that might help in your situation.

Hope this helps. If so, please rate the post.

It sounds like a PLAR could be helpul here. If you already have a speed dial setup, they're probably dialing to a shared line appearance on several other phones?

You could create a blank translation pattern that translates "" to XXXX(destination shared line appearance). Put this blank translation into a new standalone partition/CSS.

Add a new line appearance to the receptionist phone and assign the new CSS to the DN. As soon as the DN goes off hook it will hit the translation pattern. Basically a connection plar like you can do on analog FXS.

If you really want to get fancy, you could probably use an FXS port and a small switch/button they could press with their foot. Use a normally open switch that closes when pressed, this will cause the FXS to go off-hook and dial the plar. They won't be able to hear what's going on but it would be a completely silent alert.

HTH.
