Does anyone have a definitive document relating to modem capability on IOS Routers and Catalyst switches. This is for customers with both AVVID networks and VoIP for inter PBX trunking. I know this is a constantly changing area but I need to cover this off in my designs for customer solutions
Very true, if you have a large amount of legacy analog devices the vg248 is the way to go. FXS and modems just don't mix. The only supported device for modems is the vg248. I tried to get the fxs/modem combo to work. Nearly impossible for long distance calls and local calls could only connect at 9600. THere really is no matrix that I know of, the vg248 is the only supported device for modems.
I wish there was a lower density vg248. 48 ports is quite a lot. For small to mid size companies with less than 20 or so modems, the vg248 is a pricy solution.

The below trick might come handy when you have to add a new node to a cluster but you don't have or is unsure of the security password for the publisher. This procedure has been around for ages.
1) Login into the CLI of the Publisher.
