I have located a system prompt that I desire to change. When I attempt to play the .wav file, my playing/editing software does not recognize.

Can you provide encoding specs or other trick.

Any guidance on how I can manipulate system prompts.

No tricks... the prompts are in 711 by default or you may have downloaded the 729a prompts. If you have the default 711, any Windows WAV editor will work. If you have 729a it's a little tricker... higher end editors such as CoolEdit and others will support this.
be aware, though, that changing system prompts is not supported. On an upgrade these will be overwritten by the original system prompts and you'll have to make the change again (i.e. save your modified file somewhere so you can apply the change easily after an upgrade).
