Multiple Exhange 2000 Servers in the same site

Configuration is:<br><br>CCM 3.1(2c)<br>Unity 3.02 (exhange not installed locally)<br>Exchange 2000 (no cluster)<br><br>Users on the default configured server function properly, users on another exchange server in the same site can not access their mailbox through their phone, but can receive messages and can retrieve them through outlook.<br><br>Is there an additional configuration step for multiple servers in the same site?<br><br>

What happens when these users on other Exchange servers call into Unity and attempt to sign into their mailbox? Do they get the failsafe message (i.e. the "I'm sorry I can't talk to you now..." prompt)? If so, can you post the error(s) that get entered into the application event log when that happens?

It accepts their id and password and then states:
"extension XXXX. Sorry the email server is offline. You can hear messages you have received....." There is nothing of interest in any of the logs.

hmmm... that's not the fail safe so it wouldn't log an error. In that case we think the home server of the subscriber is off line for some reason. We ping all other Exchange servers that have one or more subscribers homed on them periodically to see if they're alive and if they don't respond in a timely fashion we mark them as off line and wont attempt to access message boxes on them (MAPI does some really unhappy things when you do this and essentially hangs the port for 15 minutes or so).

the question is why we think those servers are off line. Let me dig around to see if there's some timing parameters you can set and/or some logs we can kick in to look at what's going on.

Here's some more information for you to chew on:

1) The other server is actually a 5.5 server, not a 2000 server.

2) If someone from the 2000 server leaves a 5.5 user a call it works properly. If an outside caller, or someone on the 5.5 leaves a message it gets queued.

3) There is never a message waiting light for the 5.5 users.

4) All typical exchange functions on all exchange servers are working properly.

Are all the boxes in the same domain? If so is it a Win2K DC or a NT PDC that's ruling the roost? Most of the known areas of problem here have to do with subscribers on the 5.5 boxes hearing the failsafe which is not what you're describing. Here's a technote on that:

But like I say, that doesn’t match what you’re describing so I’m doubtful that’s the issue. I’d like you to do a couple of things here if you can.

1. Set a registry key that will force more data to kick into the application event log when we think an Exchange server is going on/off line. The key is:

HKLM>Software>Active Voice>AvWm>1.00>Diag Level.

If you set it to 1, it'll spew more info out into the event log. Yes, you'll need to restart Unity before this takes effect.

2. Look in DOHPropTest for one of the users on Exchange 5.5 that’s getting the UMR conversation when logging in and check their AVP_HOME_SERVER value. I’m curious to see if it’s empty or wrong or something like that.

Domain Controller is Win2k, but is also running 4.0 emulation.

I do not show the AVP_HOME_SERVER variable in DohPropTest at all.

The errors in the event log are as follows (use XXX as the 5.5 exchange server and YYY as the userID). The first error repeats every 2 seconds:

sorry about that... they changed the tag... its "AVP_MAIL_SERVER" not home server.

Did the event log server name (the "XXX" in your log) match the name of the server accurately?

AVP_MAIL_SERVER has all servers listed properly.

The error messages correctly identify the 5.5 server that is giving me problems.

I did see another problem though buried in the log:

Message Queuing was unable to join the local Windows 2000 domain. Hresult- c00e0075h



I'm getting a similar problem. Did you get it fixed?

Did anyone get this issue fixed? Im running into the same problem with Unity 3.1.5.

If anyone is getting the MSMQ errors mentioned earlier in this post, it has nothing to do with the original problem mentioned in the post: not being able to access E55 mailboxes. The MSMQ error is benign. At any rate, check out this link, and it'll show you how to get rid of that MSMQ error...
