MWI and Outlook Preview

Users who get their voice mail through Outlook have the preview pane open. When a message is viewed through the preview pane , the MWI is turned off even though the message wasn't played.

Is there anyway that the MWI will not turn off unless the message is actually played?

I don't think it is possible, but thought I would throw it out there.

Thanks in advance!

Re: MWI and Outlook Preview

The MWI indication is actually a status from the Exchange server and is beyond the control of Unity. So when the message is in the preview pane, the email message status will be changed to READ on Exchange. If you mark the message as marked UnRead in Outlook, you will see that the MWI will turn back on.

Re: MWI and Outlook Preview

There is a setting that tells Outlook to not mark a message as read when viewed through the Preview Pane. In Outlook, go to Tools -> Options -> Other -> Preview Pane/Reading Pane (depending on your version). Uncheck the first check box. Users will then have to double-click a message for it to be marked as read and therefore turn off the MWI.

Hope this helps.
