Need info on interaction between Unity and an external Exchange server

I'm looking for documentation covering the interaction between a Unity server and an external Exchange 2000 message store. Among others things, I'm looking for info covering the following questions:

- What protocols are used between the 2 servers?

- How does Unity know when to turn off the MWI when the vmails are listen through Outlook/Exchange?

- Do both servers must be in the same Windows Domain? (this is for an existing Exchange environment managed by the customer and where Unity would be managed by the telco)

- What user accounts & administrative rights are required on the Unity server to interact with the Exchange server, and vice versa?

TIA,

Francis

Re: Need info on interaction between Unity and an external Excha

Unity talks to Exchange using the MAPI protocol. Messages are delivered and mailboxes are monitored for unread messages with the IMP.NOTE.VOICE.UNITY class via MAPI.

Unity does NOT need to be in same domain as all of the Exchange server but it does need to be in the same domain as the Exchange server which will house the Unity_ mailbox.

For permissions you should check out the install guide:
