Hi folks,

Is there a way to use any Cisco Voice/IP telephony devices to make local and long distance calls to a telephone over the IP network? What are the requirements, cost-effective solution to deploy this to cut-down the telephone costs?

any help will be appreciated..thanks :)

You can make calls across a WAN link to say another office over a leased line without paying by-the-minute charges. For those calls, you'll still gateway to the phone company.

you will need quite a few things: gateway, phone, call manager(optional but much easier than CLI) switch(poe unless you use ac adaptors)

Benefits are more than you could imagine. Cuts costs for long distance, voice mail, e-mail and voicemail in one place. But more importantly to me is that you have total control over your voice and data!

The major cost benefit is when your able to use underutilized EXISTING private links for toll bypass if your company makes alot of intra-company calls that require long distance charges as well alot of long distance calls to states/countries where you have offices connected by those underutilized EXISTING dta links. If none of that is in place you wont save tons for the cost of those private data links will significantly cut into any savings realized from the semi-elimination of the long distance tolls.

obviously

or at least as much control as this weeks Call Manager release/IOS upgrade allows

Ha!! Isn't that the truth!!!!!
