Offline BAckup

My client doesn't have Exchange Backup Agent for Exchange. Do I get a good backup by performing the following(I know it works for Exchange - not 100% sure about Unity):

Shuts down all services for Exchange and Unity, Backup the whole server using normal file backup.

Systems Engineer

Re: Offline BAckup

Well... that wouldn't be my choice since it's not going to get the registry info and the like. It's always best to invest in a decent backup system like Backup Exec and do it right.

The straight file backup is not something we'll help you out with if you have problems restoring, lets put it that way.

Re: Offline BAckup

What if they are using ArcservceIT to backup their files and registry? (Exchange Option is what they don't have though we have requested that they get that) Can we still have a good backup doing offline file backup (by having Exchange Services & Unity Services turned off)? [This is for the upgrade that we are doing this weekend]

Re: Offline BAckup

Well... I can't really give this one the AnswerMonkey seal of approval since I've never tried it and we've never tested it in our labs. I'm not sure how this would work for restoring your Exchange directory and message store in a system with multiple Exchange servers in the same site (I tend to think not very well).

I wish I could be more positive about it...
