Ordering 7940 phones

Is it still necessary to order the software liscence for each 7940 when ordering more phone instruments to add to a call manager network. I am being told by our contracting/purchasing people that I need a quote for the phone liscense as well as the instrument. Is this true?

Ok,

I you want to put additional phones on your network for active use, you do need to buy the phone and a license.

However if you are just buying the phone as a spare in case a users phone breaks, you dont need to buy another license, just another phone. A you've already purchased the license with the original phone.

That is true. Cisco split the cost of the phone into a phone price and a license price. They are trying to make the phone look more competetive in the market!
