Pager Notification

Unity 3.15 CCM 3.2.2

Attempting to set up pager notification. Haveing a few problems:

1: Can't tell if Unity is ACTUALLY calling out. status monitor shows that the port initializes, dials 9,1201XXXXXXX - stays active for about 15 - 20 seconds, and then closes the connection. Not sure if the " EXTRA DIGITS" are being dialed. No errors are being logged in the event viewer. Call manager Trase logs are showing a call being made.

QUESTION1: Is there a way to hear, tell, what is actually being done?

Our call manager is connected to a EON Milennium via T-1 from the VG200 to Milennium. All calls from CCM are being routed to the millenium, and then out that gateway to the PSTN. Calls can be transferred from an IP set to a milennium set

ie: call from IPSET-A to IPSET-B. Call is then transferred from IPSET-A to

Milennium Set. That transfer completes successfully.

From within Unity: attempt to dial the extension on the same milennium set, the transfer test was just conducted on. Unity does not understand the request. MILLENIUM SETS WILL NOT BE USING UNITY AS VM BOX.

QUESTION 2:

Does a dual integration have to be configured if Unity will be routing thru the VG200 to the Milennium, regardless of the fact that no one on the EON side will be using Unity? We are only using the milennium to get a PRI and access the PSTN.

Hope I was clear enough in my description.

Re: Pager Notification

For question 1, you could open up Unity traces, but it might be easier to troubleshoot it this way (start simple and then get progessively more complicated).

1. Instead of starting out at pager notification, just try regular notification (where Unity just calls a phone). Start with notificaiton to a phone on CCM and get that working. This will make sure that the general configuration for Unity dial-outs is working.

2. Then start with notification to a phone on the Millennium. This will make sure that the call routing is set up correctly on CCM and the Millenium.

3. Once the previous step is working, do notification to a phone that will traverse the PSTN connectivity off of the Milennium (some outside line).

4. Then do a "fake" pager notification to that outside line. Set it up so that it will dial similar extra digits that the "real" pager dial-out would. This will ensure that the DTMF digits are really being passed after the call is connected to the the pager service.

For question 2, if Unity's use of the Millenium is to only get to the outside world, there's no need for dual-switch.

We tried this: should the "Fake" pager hear tones when they pickup? If so, they do not, so i can only assume that DTMF is not being forwarded. If NOT, then what SHOULD happen?

Re: Pager Notification

Try calling the "fake" pager directly from an IP phone. Once the call is connected try some DTMF key presses and verify that they are correctly being relayed as tones to the outside line. If not, they're probably being dropped at one of the gatways.

Re: Pager Notification

they are being relayed... when I dial them,

when unity calls a number, and tries to dial the numbers in the " Extra Digits " field, nothing happens, and the call disconnects after a few seconds. Below is the Notification Setup

Phone Number

9,1201xxxxxxx

Extra Digits

12345678 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< ( should these be audible ?)

Dialing Options

checked Try to detect connection

checked Seconds to wait before dialing extra digits " 2 "

Re: Pager Notification

Yes, those should sound exactly the same as when you dialed them from an IP phone. When you call from an IP phone, how long do you wait between dialing the last digit of the phone number and the first of the extra digits?

The "Try to detect connection" isn't always effective when dialing out a gateway. Unity may be receiving "connected" as soon as the first leg of the call is established. In that case, Unity might dial all of your extra digits before the call is even answered. Try bumping up the "Seconds to wait before dialing extra digits" to match what you were doing on the IP phone.

Re: Pager Notification

disabled " try to detect connection "

retried the fake pager

number dialed, phone rings, i pick up and get silence. call disco's after few seconds. None of the " Extra Digits " are dialed. The ammount of time that the call stays active is = to the time alotted in the " Seconds to wait before dialing extra digits. "

Fake Pager is not an IP phone, but a milenium set.

Does something have to be modified in the restriction table to get this to work?

PS: thank's for all the assistance. i'd like to see if i can get this resolved w/o calling TAC.

Re: Pager Notification

still stumped... any ideas where to go from here

Re: Pager Notification

I am also out of ideas for easy things to check. From here you could start looking at Call Manager traces. Compare a pager notification call from Unity with your test call from an IP phone (are you using a Skinny phone, like a 7960?). The dialing of "extra digits" should show up the same in both. If this is the case then you should next look into the VG200 gateway. Otherwise, if the extra digits from Unity are not showing up on the Call Manager trace, then you should next look into Unity diagnostics (are the extra digits audiable if you send the call to another IP phone?). In either case, TAC may be able to speed things along for you.

Re: Pager Notification

It's not a restriction table issue. Place an IP phone in the same CSS as the Unity port that's set to do pager dialouts. Call the same phone that you have set up for the pager dial-out. Answer that phone and from the IP phone, dial digits. Can you hear them on the other phone?
