pc SOFTPHONE

hello

is there anyway i can configure my PC which runs Cisco's software phone, to use a separate vlan tag for the phone application, and a separate vlan tag for the other data. I am sure i would require some support on the NIC but will the applicatoin and OS allow me to do this ? I am running Win2K

regards

Petros

Re: pc SOFTPHONE

From my experience I would say no. The new version of softphone 1.3(3) sets the priority now (at layer 2) from what I understand.

I have had people comment on how much better quality they get from 1.3(3). We were running 1.3(2a) before.

Re: pc SOFTPHONE

No, it isn't possible, the softphone works on upper layers it only "give packets TCP/UDP over IP" to the lower layers and don't have inference on them, the OS and the NIC build the frames ETH, FETH on layer 2. The NIC should have switch features to support it.
